Carmel Conway is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Ireland in a number of years. With her debut album, This Beautiful Day now available online, the album is set for a US and Canadian release in Autumn 2008. Plans are also currently being put in place for her to tour in those countries ahead of the release over the coming months. Having recently completed a series of highly successful shows in Los Angeles, Moneterey and New York in addition to her guest appearances with The Chieftains in Los Angeles and Philadelphia in Feb/March this year, Carmel is well on the way to developing her name and profile internationally. Having wowed audiences all over Ireland with her incredible vocal technique and unique stage presence, she is setting her sights on impressing audiences further afield with the songs from her new album. Featuring a great mix of new, contemporary material and a few of her own versions of better-known songs, Carmel is really excited about the prospects for this album.
From a very young age, Carmel was singing songs by people like Barbara Streisand, The Carpenters and Sarah Brightman and more recently has been influenced by artists such as Josh Groban. She received private tuition from an early age and managed to develop an outstanding level of technique and tonality which never fails to impress her audiences. In these earlier years she won many of the major vocal competitions that exist in Ireland and received consistently glowing audience reactions for her solo performances. Carmel commands great audiences everywhere she plays, and is as comfortable in an intimate setting as she is singing to audiences of 2,000 or more at some of Ireland’s best known concert venues, including The National Concert Hall in Dublin, The Waterfront Hall in Belfast and University Concert Hall Limerick. In late 2006, a change of musical emphasis saw Carmel begin preparations for her debut album, which was recorded through December 2007 and February 2008 with The Irish Film Orchestra. She has been working with the renowned arranger / producer Fiachra Trench (Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, The Corrs) on a selection of great songs ranging from pop ballads to roots material to include on the album. With exciting times ahead, including touring in the US and Canada and the international release of her debut album, Limerick’s best kept secret may soon be a household name. |
