Dickie Rock was born in Cabra, Dublin and was the frontman of the Miami Showband, three members of which were murdered in 1975. Dickie was the subject of a well-known Irish catchphrase - "spit on me Dickie". The phrase took off in Belfast in the 60s and spread all over the country. Between 1963 and 1977 Dickie and the Miami Showband Numerous number ones and had a rake of top ten hits.. In his career he has played to millions of fans who follow him to every corner of the country.
Dickie Rock is still as popular as ever after a career spanning more than 40 years. Following a third RTE documentary about Dickie and his place at the forefront of the legendary Irish Showband scene, his loyal fans throughout the country have been clamouring for a chance to relive those glory days. One of Ireland’s most successful singers ever, Dickie Rock had 25 Irish hits from 1963 to 1983, surpassed only by the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. During his time with the Miami Showband, Dickie attracted the kind of mass hysteria normally reserved for the Beatles and Sinatra. Intent on recreating those halcyon days, Dickie intends to spend more time on the road this year. already playing to sold out crowds in Vicar street in Dublin and Around the Country. With a new album and his autobiography 'Always Me' due out in October 2007, these are exciting times for the Irish legend who has already secured a well-earned place in Irish entertainment history. |
